Hello guys! I found this site, www.freeflashtoys.com where you can make fun widgets like simpets, photo doll, etc. which you can use in your blog. I chose "Ask the Roses" which is like a guestbook where you can ask whomever who visits your blog any question answerable by "yes" or "no". I was amused by it because the default question was "Do you want to date me?". I just knew I would be able to put this widget to good use. I changed the question to "Do You Like My Blog?"

The fun thing is that if you answer "yes", I get a fresh rose and you can even leave a short message and url for me. If you answer "no", I still get a rose but it will be wilted. Whatever you decide to give me, please do leave me a rose. :-) I hope by the end of the month of September, I will have a vase full of roses! Please don't hesitate to leave whatever message you want.

The "Vase of Roses" is at the bottom of my page. This is only for fun! I hope you will participate. Well, that's all for now. Take care and enjoy!

P.S. You guys probably noticed that I changed my blog layout. :-) Hehehehe, in keeping with the blog name, "If Wishes Were Wings!"

Blessed be!

I love roses. Its actually one of my favorite flowers. I just want to share this video with you guys plus this beautiful poem about a rose. Hope you enjoy!

THE ROSE

The lily has a smooth stalk,
Will never hurt your hand;
But the rose upon her brier
Is lady of the land.

There's sweetness in an apple tree,
And profit in the corn;
But lady of all beauty
Is a rose upon a thorn.

When with moss and honey
She tips her bending brier,
And half unfolds her glowing heart,
She sets the world on fire.

Blessed be!

I was twelve years old when my grandfather passed away. I remember growing cold when I heard the news, so cold I had to put on every sweater I owned though it was a hot summer day.

I spent the next few days in a fog, barely seeing or hearing anything until the funeral. The one bright point I recall was a floral arrangement, heart-shaped and bursting with vivid red roses. When the service ended and the guests left, I gathered all the roses up into boxes and bags and took them home with me, intending to keep them forever in my grandfather's memory.

Unfortunately, I didn't know anything about preserving flowers, and within a few days my heaps of red roses wilted and crumbled. I tried to save a few, pressing them between the pages of books, but it was too late. Finally, I had to throw them all away.

Weeks later, I was sitting on my bed reading a book when the strangest thing happened: a few dried red rose petals fluttered out of nowhere and landed on the pages.

I froze in amazement then began trying to figure out where they could have come from. I knew I hadn't kept any flowers in this book, and even if I had, they would have fallen out when I turned a page. There was no wind in the room that could have blown around any petals I might still have had hiding somewhere.

Finally, I looked up realizing the only place they could have come from was the painting of roses on the wall above my bed.

I checked behind the painting, which had once hung in my mother's room, to see if she might have pressed a flower to the back. I found nothing.

There was no other explanation but the one I desperately wanted to believe - that my grandfather had seen the painting and used it to give me something to remember him by, something to hold on to.

I still have those petals today, though I haven't heard from my grandfather again. I like to think the petals symbolize that although all beautiful things eventually die, there are ways to treasure them long after their passing.

Blessed be!

There was once a poor woman who had a little girl. The girl had to go every day into the forest to fetch wood. Once when she had gone a long way to seek it, a little boy, who was quite strong, came and helped her industriously to pick up the wood and carry it home, and then before a moment had passed the strange child disappeared.
The girl told her mother this, but at first she would not believe it. At length she brought a rose home, and told her mother that the beautiful boy had given her this rose, and had told her that when it was in full bloom, he would return. The mother put the rose in water. One morning her child could not get out of bed. The mother went to the bed and found her dead, but she lay looking very happy. On the same morning, the rose was in full bloom.
