There was once a poor woman who gave birth to a little son,
and as he came into the world with a caul on, it was predicted
that in his fourteenth year he would have the king's daughter
for his wife. It happened that soon afterwards the king
came into the village, and no one knew that he was the king,
and when he asked the people what news there was, they answered,
a child has just been born with a caul on, whatever anyone so
born undertakes turns out well. It is prophesied, too, that
in his fourteenth year he will have the king's daughter for his
wife.

The king, who had a bad heart, and was angry about the prophecy,
went to the parents, and, seeming quite friendly, said, you poor
people, let me have your child, and I will take care of it. At
first they refused, but when the stranger offered them a large
amount of gold for it, and they thought, it is a child of good
fortune, and everything must turn out well for it, they at last
consented, and gave him the child.

The king put it in a box and rode away with it until he came to
a deep piece of water, then he threw the box into it and thought,
I have freed my daughter from her undesired suitor.

The box, however, did not sink, but floated like a boat, and not
a drop of water made its way into it. And it floated to within
two miles of the king's chief city, where there was a mill, and
it came to a halt at the mill-dam. A miller's boy, who by good
luck was standing there, noticed it and pulled it out with a hook,
thinking that he had found a great treasure, but when he opened
it there lay a pretty boy inside, quite fresh and lively. He
took him to the miller and his wife, and as they had no children
they were glad, and said, "God has given him to us." They took
great care of the foundling, and he grew up in all goodness.

It happened that once in a storm, the king went into the mill, and
asked the mill-folk if the tall youth were their son. No,
answered they, he's a foundling. Fourteen years ago he floated
down to the mill-dam in a box, and the mill-boy pulled him out
of the water.

Then the king knew that it was none other than the child of
good fortune which he had thrown into the water, and he said,
my good people, could not the youth take a letter to the queen.
I will give him two gold pieces as a reward. Just as the king
commands, answered they, and they told the boy to hold himself
in readiness. Then the king wrote a letter to the queen, wherein
he said, as soon as the boy arrives with this letter, let him be
killed and buried, and all must be done before I come home.
The boy set out with this letter, but he lost his way, and in the
evening came to a large forest.
In the darkness he saw a small light, he went towards it and reached a cottage.
When he went in, an old woman was sitting by the fire quite alone. She started
when she saw the boy, and said, whence do you come, and whither
are you going. I come from the mill, he answered, and wish
to go to the queen, to whom I am taking a letter, but as I have
lost my way in the forest I should like to stay here over night.
You poor boy, said the woman, you have come into a den of thieves,
and when they come home they will kill you. Let them come,
said the boy, I am not afraid, but I am so tired that I cannot go
any farther. And he stretched himself upon a bench and fell
asleep.

Soon afterwards the robbers came, and angrily asked what strange
boy was lying there. Ah, said the old woman, it is an innocent
child who has lost himself in the forest, and out of pity I have
let him come in, he has to take a letter to the queen. The robbers
opened the letter and read it, and in it was written that the
boy as soon as he arrived should be put to death. Then the
hardhearted robbers felt pity, and their leader tore up the letter
and wrote another, saying, that as soon as the boy came, he should
be married at once to the king's daughter. Then they let him lie
quietly on the bench until the next morning, and when he awoke
they gave him the letter, and showed him the right way.

And the queen, when she had received the letter and read it,
did as was written in it, and had a splendid wedding-feast
prepared, and the king's daughter was married to the child of
good fortune, and as the youth was handsome and friendly she lived
with him in joy and contentment.

After some time the king returned to his palace and saw that
the prophecy was fulfilled, and the child married to his daughter.
How has that come to pass, said he, I gave quite another order
in my letter.

So the queen gave him the letter, and said that he might see for
himself what was written in it. The king read the letter and
saw quite well that it had been exchanged for the other. He
asked the youth what had become of the letter entrusted to him,
and why he had brought another instead of it. I know nothing
about it, answered he, it must have been changed in the night,
when I slept in the forest.

The king said in a passion, you shall not have everything quite
so much your own way, whosoever marries my daughter must fetch me
from hell three golden hairs from the head of the devil, bring me
what I want, and you shall keep my daughter. In this way the king
hoped to be rid of him for ever.
But the child of good fortune answered, I will fetch the golden
hairs, I am not afraid of the devil. Whereupon he took leave of
them and began his journey.

The road led him to a large town, where the watchman by the gates
asked him what his trade was, and what he knew. I know
everything, answered the child of good fortune. Then you can do us
a favor, said the watchman, if you will tell us why our market
fountain, which once flowed with wine has become dry, and no
longer gives even water. That you shall know, answered he, only
wait until I come back.

Then he went farther and came to another town, and there also the
gatekeeper asked him what was his trade, and what he knew.
I know everything, answered he. Then you can do us a favor and
tell us why a tree in our town which once bore golden apples now
does not even put forth leaves. You shall know that, answered he,
only wait until I come back.

Then he went on and came to a wide river over which he must cross.
The ferryman asked him what his trade was, and what he knew. I
know everything, answered he. Then you can do me a favor, said
the ferryman, and tell me why I must always be rowing backwards
and forwards, and am never set free. You shall know that,
answered he, only wait until I come back.

When he had crossed the water he found the entrance to hell. It
was black and sooty within, and the devil was not at home, but
his grandmother was sitting in a large arm-chair. What do you
want, said she to him, but she did not look so very wicked. I
should like to have three golden hairs from the devil's head,
answered he, else I cannot keep my wife. That is a good deal
to ask for, said she, if the devil comes home and finds you, it
will cost you your life, but as I pity you, I will see if I cannot
help you.

She changed him into an ant and said, creep into the folds of my
dress, you will be safe there. Yes, answered he, so far, so good,
but there are three things besides that I want to know - why a
fountain which once flowed with wine has become dry, and no
longer gives even water, why a tree which once bore golden apples
does not even put forth leaves, and why a ferryman must always be
going backwards and forwards, and is never set free.
Those are difficult questions, answered she, but just be silent
and quiet and pay attention to what the devil says when I pull out
the three golden hairs.

As the evening came on, the devil returned home. No sooner had he
entered than he noticed that the air was not pure. I smell man's
flesh, said he, all is not right here. Then he pried into
every corner, and searched, but could not find anything. His
grandmother scolded him. It has just been swept, said she, and
everything put in order, and now you are upsetting it again, you
have always got man's flesh in your nose. Sit down and eat your
supper.

When he had eaten and drunk he was tired, and laid his head in
his grandmother's lap, and told her she should louse him a little.
It was not long before he was fast asleep, snoring and breathing
heavily. Then the old woman took hold of a golden hair, pulled
it out, and laid it down beside her. Oh, cried the devil,
what are you doing. I have had a bad dream, answered the
grandmother, so I seized hold of your hair. What did you dream
then, said the devil. I dreamt that a fountain in a market-place
from which wine once flowed was dried up, and not even water
would flow out of it - what is the cause of it. Oh, ho, if they
did but know it, answered the devil, there is a toad sitting
under a stone in the well - if they killed it, the wine would flow
again.

The grandmother loused him again until he went to sleep and
snored so that the windows shook. Then she pulled the second hair
out. Ha, what are you doing, cried the devil angrily. Do not
take it ill, said she, I did it in a dream. What have you dreamt
this time, asked he. I dreamt that in a certain kingdom there
stood an apple-tree which had once borne golden apples, but now
would not even bear leaves. What, think you, was the reason.
Oh, if they did but know, answered the devil. A mouse is
gnawing at the root - if they killed it they would have golden
apples again, but if it gnaws much longer the tree will wither
altogether. But I have had enough of your dreams, if you disturb
me in my sleep again you will get a box on the ear.

The grandmother spoke gently to him and picked his lice once
more until he fell asleep and snored. Then she took hold of the
third golden hair and pulled it out. The devil jumped up,
roared out, and would have treated her ill if she had not
quieted him again and said, who can help bad dreams. What
was the dream, then, asked he, and was quite curious. I dreamt
of a ferryman who complained that he must always ferry from
one side to the other, and was never released. What is the
cause of it. Ah, the fool, answered the devil, when anyone
comes and wants to go across he must put the oar in his hand,
and the other man will have
to ferry and he will be free. As the grandmother had plucked
out the three golden hairs, and the three questions were
answered, she let the old devil alone, and he slept until
daybreak.

When the devil had gone out again the old woman took the ant
out of the folds of her dress, and gave the child of good
fortune his human shape again. There are the three golden
hairs for you, said she. What the devil said to your three
questions, I suppose you heard. Yes, answered he, I heard, and
will take care to remember. You have what you want, said she,
and now you can go your way. He thanked the old woman for
helping him in his need, and left hell well content that
everything had turned out so fortunately.

When he came to the ferryman he was expected to give the
promised answer. Ferry me across first, said the child of good
fortune, and then I will tell you how you can be set free, and
when he reached the opposite shore he gave him the devil's advice.
Next time anyone comes, who wants to be ferried over, just put the
oar in his hand.

He went on and came to the town wherein stood the unfruitful
tree, and there too the watchman wanted an answer. So he
told him what he had heard from the devil. Kill the mouse
which is gnawing at its root, and it will again bear golden
apples. Then the watchman thanked him, and gave him as a reward
two asses laden with gold, which followed him.

Finally, he came to the town whose well was dry. He told the
watchman what the devil had said, a toad is in the well beneath
a stone, you must find it and kill it, and the well will again
give wine in plenty. The watchman thanked him, and also
gave him two asses laden with gold.

At last the child of good fortune got home to his wife, who
was heartily glad to see him again, and to hear how well he had
prospered in everything. To the king he took what he had asked
for, the devil's three golden hairs, and when the king saw the
four asses laden with gold he was quite content, and said, now
all the conditions are fulfilled, and you can keep my daughter.

But tell me, dear son-in-law, where did all that gold come from - this
is tremendous wealth. I was rowed across a river, answered he,
and got it there, it lies on the shore instead of sand. Can I
too fetch some of it, said the king, and he was quite eager
about it. As much as you like, answered he. There is a
ferryman on the river, let him ferry you over, and you can fill
your sacks on the other side. The greedy king set out in all
haste, and when he came to the river he beckoned to the ferryman
to put him across. The ferryman came and bade him get in,
and when they got to the other shore he put the oar in his
hand and sprang over. But from this time forth the king had to
ferry, as a punishment for his sins. Perhaps he is ferrying
still. If he is, it is because no one has taken the oar from
him.

This happened a few days ago. I don't normally have undisturbed sleep. I was lying in bed dreaming; my dream was pretty normal and dull. But then, suddenly it completely changed, I knew I was lying in bed, I knew I facing the window and I had this pressing feeling that there was someone out the window or near the window watching me!

I got so freaked out I woke up. I was very, very surprised to see someone, a woman, standing by my bed! She seemed to be leaning over looking at something; I immediately thought it was my mother, although I could not see any detail of this person – she was more like a dark figure with the outline very distinct. I could see the outline of a hairdo, which was very long and kind of wavy, or curly. This definitely could not have been my mother, since she has long straight hair, and has had for over 30 years…But I could also see that the face of this person was round, just like my mothers…I had just woken up you see…So I thought it was my mom and I thought perhaps she was trying to look at my clock which was beside my bed between it and the window. I got annoyed and was about to say, “What are you doing in here, mommy??!! You scared me half to death!!” But as soon as I took a breath, the figure stood up and glided very swiftly around my bed, half way across the room, and vanished!

Now I was half sitting up in bed with my jaw wide open in shock! I was thinking: I know I am awake, I know I saw something, but I have no idea what!! And then it crossed my mind, that perhaps it was my grandmother that I had seen. So, after a few moments in the dark with my jaw still open and my heart pounding, I turned the T.V. on because I am a wuss. The next day, I told my mother what I had seen. I described the outline of the woman and everything that happened. I did not tell her that I thought it was my grandmother (her mother), but the next day she told me that she thought it was her mother. My grandmother died 4 years ago, and recently, I’ve been asking her to look out for me, since my life is starting to get complicated – and it’s really helped thinking that she is! So maybe it was her…and she was just looking out for me…but I don’t really know.

Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a little girl and a menacing hooded statue.

Graceland Cemetery

One of the strangest stories reported at Graceland Cemetery is that of a life-sized statue memorializing a 6-year-old girl named Inez Clarke who was struck and killed by lightning while on a family picnic. Her parents, stunned by the tragic loss, commissioned a life-size statue of the girl to be placed on her grave. It was placed in a glass box to protect it from the elements.

The statue of Inez remains in nearly perfect condition today. Inez is perched on a small stool, wearing her favorite dress and carrying a tiny parasol. Locals say that the ghost of Inez is still haunting Graceland Cemetery.

There are stories of strange sounds of weeping coming from the statue, and some even claim they have seen the statue of Inez actually moving. It is said that, during violent thunderstorms, Inez sometimes vanishes from inside her glass box and goes roaming around in the graveyard until the storm is over.

Many years ago, a night watchman was making his rounds during a storm and discovered that the glass case was empty. He saw flashes of lightning that illuminated the figure of a young girl in the distance, playing in the rain. The night watchman fled from the cemetery that night, never to return. Other guards have also reported it missing, only to find it back in place when they pass by again, or the following morning.

Graceland Cemetery

Graceland Cemetery is also said to be haunted by an unusual bronze statue of a hooded figure called “Eternal Silence”. The brooding and menacing figure has become more commonly known as the “Statue of Death”.

The figure was once black in color but over the years, the black has mostly worn away, exposing the green, weathered metal beneath. It is said that anyone who looks into the face of the statue will get a vision of their own death.

The story is about a commercial for Kleenex tissues that was shown on Japanese TV back in 1986 or so. It featured an actress in a white dress sitting next to a child made up to look like a baby ogre. There was supposedly a really creepy song in a foreign language that when researched, is actually an old German folk song with the words “Die, die, everyone is cursed and will be killed.” Soon after the debut of the commercial, a lot of people complained that it was creepy, or cursed, and it was quickly pulled off the air.

Soon after though, accidents started to befall the actors and crew of the commercial, including the child playing the baby ogre dying of sudden organ failure, the actress being committed to a mental institution where she is either still there, or at some point committed suicide by hanging herself (depending on the version of the story). You can see where this is going, it’s pretty much a standard urban legend.Just like the movie Ring, anyone who sees the commercial will have anything from bad luck to a violent death, etc.

Below is the allegedly cursed commercial. To say the least, I was not impressed by the lack of spookiness in this commercial. Not only was the little ogre-kid cute and the lady pretty, the song is in English, and is called “It’s a fine day” by Miss Jane. The ‘accursed’ lyrics are:

It’s a fine day
People open windows
They leave their houses
Just for a short while
They walk by the grass
And they look at the grass
They look at the sky
It’s going to be a fine night tonight
It’s going to be a fine day tomorrow

Not really the kind of lyrics that people associate with curses and fatal accidents. I’ll give the rumormongers that it is in a minor key and the song could sound a little strange if you didn’t understand the lyrics. Also, of course, there haven’t been any string of accidents or deaths among the people associated with the commercial. In fact, the actress in the commercial is a woman by the name of Keiko Matsuzaka and she is still working as an actress and is active in Japanese celebrity circles. Other interesting roles of hers are that of Princess Fuse in the 1983 movie production of the Hakkenden, and she had a role in "The House of Inugami (dog spirit). This sounds like a horror/thriller to me, so those looking for her in a horror role will finally be rewarded, I suppose. But who knows, maybe its the belief that THERE IS a curse on the commercial that gave power to the curse. Do you have enough courage to watch the commercial?

The legend is said to originate with a young woman who lived hundreds of years ago (some versions of the legend state the Heian period) and was either the wife or concubine of a samurai. She is said to have been very beautiful but also very vain, and possibly cheating on her husband. The samurai, extremely jealous and feeling cuckolded, attacked her and slit her mouth from ear to ear, screaming "Who will think you're beautiful now?"

The urban legend picks up from this point, stating that a woman roams around at night (especially during foggy evenings), with her face covered by a surgical mask, which would not be especially unusual, as people with colds often wear masks for the sake of others in Japan. When she encounters someone (primarily children or college students), she will coyly ask, "Do you think I'm beautiful?" ("Watashi kirei?"). If the person answers yes, she will take off her mask and say, "Even like this?" At this point, if the victim answers "No," she will slay them (in many versions, her weapon is a pair of scissors). If the victim tells her she is pretty a second time, she follows the victim home and slays them in their own doorway, due to the fact that "kirei" (きれい), Japanese for 'pretty,' is a near homophone of "kire" (切れ), the imperative form of "to cut".

During the seventies, the urban legend went that if the victim answers "you're average," they are saved. When the urban legend was revived around 2000, the answer that would save you was changed to "so-so," with the change that this answer causes the kuchisake-onna to think about what to do, and her victim can escape while she is in thought.

One way to escape is to present the Kuchisake-onna with amber, hard candy. Another is to say "pomade" three (in some versions six) times. This will make her either falter and turn or run away. If the victim has pomade, they can write with it behind her back to keep her from following. The reason is rumored to be that this reminds her of either the dentist's or (plastic) surgery smells, or that her boyfriend used it.

P.S. I was able to get a video of the Slit-Mouth Woman or Severed-Mouth Woman. Watch this, its spooky!

P.P.S. On 2nd thought, I think I will just put the link here. Its much too scary and I don't want to upset people too much.

I am finally satisfied with the way I want my blog to look. Those who have visited me before will surely notice the differences. Now I can move on. :-)

My sister has been so impatient with me, I kept on asking her since this afternoon, "How do you like my blog? Is it okay?" and she was like "Its fine, its fine" until she finally lost it and said that it really doesn't matter what my blog looks like, its the contents that matter. That got me thinking. Yes, the content of my blog is important but I believe that the presentation also counts. Don't you agree?

Anyway, I am satisfied now. Now let me post some nice and lovely stories for you folks. Thanks to Karen (aka Graphic Fairy ) and Lori ( The Maiden's Quest ) for their words of encouragements. Please visit their blogs too! Their blogs were my source of inspiration!

Hi, I changed the layout of my blog because I was getting a bit tired of the previous one. The funny thing is, after I went to the trouble of finding the look I wanted for my blog (courtesy of the Background Fairy, you can visit her site here and http://btemplates.com ), I kind of miss my old one! Isn't that hilarious? Well, if I missed it to much I might just return to the first look, I did save the template. It took HOURS for me to finally decide on the one I am using now. I am so picky about the way I want my blog to look. I chose something not as feminine as my first blog, but still mysterious and classy.

Its kind of rainy here in Las Piñas (the name of my hometown) but I like it. I love the sound of the rain and the atmosphere is really good, it is very conducive for creative writing. The spirits are also finding the weather nice. :-)

I will be blogging more later with some stories and a few interesting tidbits. Take care dears!

P.S. I changed my blog template again! I just can't stand the blog I chosen, its not... me! :-(

When Kevin arrived at the cliff, it was almost midnight. He stood there, waiting for Amanda, feeling the cool night air and looking out across the bay at the peaceful scene. It was a perfect night. The moon was full and the breaking of the waves between the rocks below was soothing. This was the third summer that his family and Amanda’s family had gone on holiday together. It was the first chance he had, this summer, to be alone with Amanda. As he turned and walked back towards the gate, he realized that he was not alone.

At first, he thought it was Amanda, but when he looked closer, he saw that it was someone else. A female figure, wearing a black dress with scooped neckline, was coming slowly towards him in the moonlight. Who on earth could she be and what was she doing out here at this time, he asked himself. As the young girl walked past him, he got a closer look. She was beautiful but her face was dirty and her hair was matted and wet. She carried a handbag which was slung over one shoulder, and her eyes were fixed on the ground. She walked gracefully, but her face betrayed a sorrowful expression.

When he reached the gate, something about the girl made him look back. She was walking towards the cliff. What could she be doing? He watched her standing there, lonely and silent, just staring out to sea. He felt there was something unusual about her. Something he couldn’t quite put his finger on. Perhaps it was the disshevelled state of her hair. Perhaps it was the fact that her clothes seemed dirty and torn. Her face was deathly pale, but also exquisitely beautiful. Finally, it came to him. There had been blood on the front of her shirt.

As he watched, the girl suddenly threw her head back and her arms flailed wildly in the air. Then she started screaming.

“Did you miss me?”, said a voice.

He turned around to find his girlfriend Amanda standing right behind him.

“I managed to sneak out…eventually”, she smiled. “What’s wrong?”

“I was looking at that girl”. He turned back to point, but the girl was gone.

“What girl?”, said Amanda.

“She was there. At the cliff edge”, he said. “Waving her arms about and shouting. Didn’t you hear her?”

They ran to the edge of the cliff and looked over, but there was no sign of anyone on the rocks below and the little path that led down to the shore was completely empty. When they walked down to the beach, they saw no trace of any living person.

“She must have gone off in a boat,” said Amanda.

“No”, said Kevin. “She wouldn’t have had time. I was looking right at her and then you came. When I looked back, she just wasn’t there anymore.”

Well she must have gone somewhere”, said Amanda. “She didn’t disappear into thin air.”

Kevin didn’t reply.

“Come on. It’s getting late. My parents will start to wonder where I am” said the girl.

The young couple walked back up the pathway and headed towards home. Kevin was silent, still thinking about the strange sight he had witnessed on the cliff.

The next day, Kevin was cycling through town when he met Amanda. They decided to go for lunch together and found a quiet little cafe.

“Remember what you were telling me last night”, said Amanda. “About that girl you saw. Well I was telling my mother about it and she thought it was very odd.”

“So did I”, replied Kevin.

“But she told me that a young girl disappeared around here years ago”, said Amanda. “It was a girl who worked for my grandmother at Ocean House. She was a maid and she just went off and nobody ever saw her again.”

Kevin was very interested in the story and Amanda went on to recount what her mother had told her the night before. It seems that the maid was an orphan and Amanda’s grandmother had taken pity on the poor young girl and offered her a job. The maid’s name was Barbara and she was a very beautiful and refined young girl. Naturally, she had many admirers among the boys who lived in the area.

Young as she was, she was very flirtatious and enjoyed all the attention she got from young men. One night, she would be seen out on a date with one young man and then a few nights later, she would be dating another. People in the area began to gossip about her and wondered if she would ever settle down with a nice young man.

After a while, Barbara became engaged to a young fisherman who worked in the area. The fisherman and his older brother owned a small fishing business across the bay and Barbara considered him quite a catch. When the news was announced, a number of young local men were heartbroken.

Barbara had no relatives and Amanda’s grandmother said that she could remain as a maid in Ocean House until the wedding day. She also said that Barbara could hold the wedding reception at Ocean House. She had grown attached to the young girl during her time in the house and wanted to do something nice for her.

Amanda said her grandmother immediately set about making preparations for the wedding, but on the morning of the wedding day, Barbara was nowhere to be found. She went to bed the previous night as usual, but her bed had not been slept in and her clothes were still hanging in her wardrobe. She apparently hadn’t taken anything with her. Nobody had noticed anything unusual in her behavior and even the unhappy bridegroom couldn’t suggest any reason why she might have run away.

The local Sheriff made exhaustive inquiries and searched the area for days, but nothing was ever seen or heard of the beautiful young Barbara again. Amanda’s grandmother, who had been very attached the young girl, was devastated and believed that something horrible must have happened to her. Most of the neighbors, however, did not believe that the girl had come to an untimely end. They remembered how many boys she had flirted with, and how she had revelled in the attention they paid to her. She must have fallen in love with some other young man, they decided, and then ran off with him to avoid having to explain things to Amanda’s grandmother. According to local gossip, Barbara had been involved with many young men and any one of them might have taken her fancy.

Although Kevin wanted to know more about the story of the missing girl, that was all Amanda could remember.

“You know, my father knows the Sheriff here” said Amanda. “We could invite him over for dinner and ask him to give us all the details”.

Kevin thought that was a great idea and the next night, when he arrived at Ocean House, there was a squad car parked in the driveway.

Over dinner, Amanda’s father asked the Sheriff if there had been any news about the disappearance of the young maid named Barbara. To his surprise, the Sheriff said that the mystery had finally been cleared up.

Only three days previously, the Sheriff had been in the police station, talking to his deputy, when a local man barged through the door. It was a fisherman who was well known and liked in the little seaport town. He had a tortured look on his face and the sherriff led him into an interrogation room and sat him down.

The fisherman said that his mind was sorely troubled, and a guilty secret weighed upon his soul. His conscience had forced him to give himself up to the police, make a confession and accept his punishment.

He told the Sheriff how, years before, he had passionately loved a pretty young girl who worked at Ocean House. Misled by her flirtatious manner, and the friendly smiles which she had innocently lavished upon everyone she knew, he began to believe that she was in love with him. When he learned that his younger brother had asked for her hand in marriage and that she had accepted, he was outraged. His thoughts became dark and bitter and he decided that the young lovers had made a fool of him. Brooding alone, for days on end, he came up with a plan to take his revenge.

He silently bided his time until the day before the wedding. On that day, he stole his younger brother’s mobile phone and sent Barbara a text message, telling her to meet him in the cove below Cliff House at midnight. Then he deleted all traces of the message from his brother’s phone and replaced it where he had found it.

That night, while his younger brother slept, he crept out of the house and took his boat out on the water. Rowing quietly across the bay, he finally came to a small cove, where he put his boat ashore.

Poor Barbara was waiting at the top of the cliff and waved to him in the darkness, believing it was her true love. He trudged up the pathway that led up the cliff, and when he reached the top, Barbara was shocked and terrified to find herself confronted by the wrong brother.

Seething with rage, the evil man put his hands around her throat and began choking her. The frightened girl screamed and began to struggle, but to no avail. Crazed and furious, he declared that if he could not have her as his wife, then neither could his brother. Suddenly, he siezed the girl in his powerful arms and tossed her off the side of the cliff. She fell to her death on the dark rocks below.

As he stood in the moonlight on the edge of the cliff, gazing at her broken body lying across the rocks, the vicious murderer’s mind turned to thoughts of how to cover up his horrible deed. Without any remorse, he walked down to the beach, picked up her lifeless body and placed it in his boat. Then he collected several heavy stones and tied them firmly around the poor girl’s corpse. Finally, he rowed out to sea, over a mile or more, and there quietly dropped the dead girl overboard.

As the Sheriff finished his tragic tale, everyone at the table grew silent. Years had gone by since the young maid’s disappearance. Eventually, the truth had come out and they knew what had become of the bride on that fatal night. Kevin said nothing. He couldn’t stop thinking about the beautiful, haunting and inexplicable vision that had appeared to him, so long ago, as he and Amanda stood together on the cliff next to Ocean House.

One of my favorite songs now is Lady Gaga's song, "Paparazzi". I like the chorus "promise I'll be kind but I won't stop until that boy is mine baby you'll be famous, chase you down until you love me papa-paparazzi". To me its like Mariah Carey's song "Always Be My Baby", no matter what you do or where you go, you will always be mine (kind of stalker-like, isn' it? hehehehe).

Well, the first time I became aware of Lady Gaga was when I saw her perform in Miss World 2008. She sang "Just Dance" her first hit, while the delegates were parading in their swimsuits. That time I thought she was too cheezy. I mean, what's up with those creepy back-up dancers making all those crazy gestures with their hands, face devoid of expression? Lady Gaga was over-the-top, her hair was obviously fake (platinum blonde?) and so on and so forth.

But when her next hit song "Pokerface" hit the waves, I became a convert. I liked the song, it was catchy and now as I looked at her and watched her videos, she is becoming more and more entertaining to gaze upon. I believe that is her intention, to entertain and to amuse. Then I saw one of her interviews, I was suprised to find her very down-to-earth and humble. Really, there are more to Lady Gaga than meets the eye.

Anyway, here is a short bio of Lady Gaga:

Real Name: Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta

Birthdate: March 28, 1986

Birthplace: Yonkers, New York

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known by her stage name Lady Gaga, is an American recording artist. She began playing in clubs in the New York City area while also working at Interscope Records as a songwriter for several established acts, including Akon. After hearing Gaga sing, he signed her to a joint deal with his own label, Kon Live Distribution. She then started to work on new material for her first studio album. She began working with a collective called the "Haus of Gaga" in 2008, and released her debut album The Fame. The album peaked in countries such as the United Kingdom and Canada to critical acclaim. To date, the album has spawned the international number one singles "Just Dance" (nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 51st Grammy Awards) and "Poker Face." After opening for New Kids On The Block and the Pussycat Dolls, Gaga headlined her first tour, The Fame Ball. Gaga has been influenced by fashion and has been appreciated for her provocative sense of style and her influence on other celebrities. Musically, she is inspired by glam rockers such as David Bowie and Queen, as well as pop singers such as Michael Jackson and Madonna.

Unknown Fact: Lady Gaga was schoolmates with the Hilton sisters, Paris and Nikki at Dwight School in New York when she was in high school.

Here's the lyrics for her song, "Paparazzi":

we are the crowd, we're c-coming out
got my flash on it's true, need that picture of you
it's so magical, we'd be so fantastico
leather and jeans, garage glamorous
not sure what it means but this photo of us
it don't have a price, ready for those flashing lights
'cause you know that baby I

I'm your biggest fan
I'll follow you until you love me, papa-paparazzi
baby, there's no other superstar
you know that I'll be your papa-paparazzi
promise I'll be kind, but I won't stop until that boy is mine
baby you'll be famous, chase you down until you love me
papa-paparazzi

I'll be your girl backstage at your show
velvet ropes and guitars, yeah 'cause you're my rockstar
in between the sets, eyeliner and cigarettes
shadow is burnt, yellow dance and we turn
my lashes are dry, purple teardrops I cry
it don't have a price, loving you is cherry pie
'cause you know that baby I

I'm your biggest fan
I'll follow you until you love me, papa-paparazzi
baby there's no other superstar
you know that I'll be your papa-paparazzi
promise I'll be kind but I won't stop until that boy is mine
baby you'll be famous, chase you down until you love me
papa-paparazzi

real good, we dance in the studio
snap snap, to that shit on the radio
don't stop for anyone
we're plastic but we still have fun

I'm your biggest fan
I'll follow you until you love me, papa-paparazzi
baby there's no other superstar
you know that I'll be your papa-paparazzi
promise I'll be kind but I won't stop until that boy is mine
baby you'll be famous, chase you down until you love me
papa-paparazzi
